About the event

1940s Swing Themed Afternoon Event

Come and join us! Step back in time to the vibrant 1940s - wear your best WWII or 1940s outfits - prizes for the best! - for an unforgettable afternoon filled with rockin' Swing music, delicious food, and fun activities. This themed event promises to transport you to an era of elegance and fun, combining the best elements of the 1940s with our own modern-day take.

Charity Support

We are so pleased to have arranged this fundraiser in liaison with Sight Life (Cardiff Institute for the Blind) who are working with us as part of our adaptive rowing programme to enable friends with a range of disabilities to experience our fantastic sport and its terrific wellbeing benefits. So come and help support their cause too!

Professional High-Quality Music

The heart of the event will be the music, featuring a professional Swing band to capture the essence of the 1940s. Come and dance to the sounds of Big Band Swing and Jazz, with talented musicians playing classic tunes that will have everyone moving - and dancing: come and show us your jive! Sarah Meek, our top vocalist, will lead the band, belting out timeless hits to get the joint jumpin'.

The band will be supported by other popular musical groups offering songs from other eras.

Great Food and Drinks

No event is complete without a delightful selection of food and drinks. The bar will be open all afternoon and into the evening and a variety of drinks will be available on site, including:

  • Signature cocktails inspired by the era, like the Sidecar and the Manhattan; come and try a Gimlet or a Dark 'n' Stormy!

  • Refreshing non-alcoholic options

  • A selection of still and sparkly wines, beers, and soft drinks hot and cold

  • Fantastic Flour'd Up pizzas and Papa's Tacos

  • The club's world famous Hot Dogs and Burger stall!

  • Browse the stalls with their high quality flavoured vodkas, specialist honeys and handcrafted jewellery, and find some perfect gifts, or treat yourself!

  • Other food offerings - and other high quality stalls - to be announced...

Rowing Machine Try Out and Racing! 🚣

For those looking to get active, a rowing machine station will be set up for guests to try their hand at this classic exercise, with a friendly competition and prizes for the best performances.

Pétanque to Try! 🪩

Come and enjoy a game of pétanque, a popular outdoor game from France but taking hold over here too. With a designated pétanque court on site, guests can learn the rules and engage in friendly matches. This laid-back activity is perfect for socializing and enjoying a fun afternoon. You may want to sign up to the club once you've tried it!

Saunas for Relaxation 🔥

To control the excitement (!) guests can unwind in our luxurious saunas provided by Steve and his team at Taff Saunas, who are based on our site year round. Providing superb relaxation and rejuvenation, the sauna and 'wellbeing zone' give a tranquil escape where guests can enjoy some calm while still soaking in the ambiance of the 1940s. Cold dipping tubs also available to wake you back up! ❄️

Children's Games 🚸

To ensure that the little ones have just as much fun, a dedicated area for children's games will be available. PLEASE NOTE: babies up to walking are welcome without further charge within your adult ticket price but any child able to toddle/run around creates safety issues for us in our lovely riverside venue, so a child ticket is required.
